[+] Why do I need to be accredited?
Accreditation is a legal requirement for any person involved in the marketing or provision of advice on medical schemes. No medical scheme may pay commission to a person who is not accredited with the Council. In addition each brokerage needs to be accredited as an organisation with the Council.
[+] What are the Council’s minimum criteria for accreditation?
The Council has a minimum educational requirement of a Matric (Grade 12), as well as a minimum of two years’ demonstrated experience as a healthcare agent/financial adviser.
[+] How do I go about applying for accreditation?
Simply complete the application form and send it, together with a cheque for R1 000, to the Council for Medical Schemes:

[+] What if I don’t have two years’ experience?
You will need to apply for accreditation as an apprentice. There is a section on the application form specifically for apprentices. What this means is that you need to be apprenticed to someone who has the required two years’ experience. This person, in essence, acts as your mentor. There is no stipulated obligation on the part of the mentor to do anything other than sign a letter to say they have no objection to being your mentor. If you do not know of anyone you could be apprenticed to, please contact the Liberty Healthcare sales division on lms@liberty.co.za.
